Jesse N. Smith House and Quilt Squares

 

We supported the fund raiser by purchasing these beautiful quilt squares - it will be fun to make four small quilts from the matching ones, or one larger one - don't know yet!

These 'farm' squares will be made into a small quilt for Emily and Kurt's Fall Festival at their farm in CO.

Across the street from the Old Rock Church we saw a sign that said: The Jesse N. Smith House.  We stopped to investigate thinking it might be a relative of mine - yes!  Jesse Nathanial was the son of Silas Smith - Joseph Senior's youngest brother.  My direct relative is John Smith, another brother of Joseph Senior.  Beautiful old house, it was closed so we couldn't go inside - but might some day!

  The plaque was interesting, our oldest son, Stanford Harold Smith, named his son Silas Hewson Smith just this May, 2021.  Then we find out that Silas was not just a missionary companion of the Apostle Paul in the Bible, but a relative on our Smith side of the family!!  love it;
